My professional experience involves fund-raising (major gift and donor stewardship primarily), theatrical production and stage management, teaching (preschool through college-level...i mean what's the difference, really?), program management, Board relations, ethnographic fieldwork, multimedia production (audio editing, mostly), radio broadcast and podcasting, non-profit management, dancer, barrista, model, and retail shopgirl.

I'm also happy to do childcare, farm or garden work, housecleaning, cooking, stilting, jewelry/clothing repping, typing, spreadsheets, drug smuggling....I can use a glue gun, a sewing machine and power tools. I like to get dirty.

our little home on wheels, which will provide us with wonderful comfort during our month on the Playa. It will take some work to dial out before then, but it will be so worth it. 26 feet of luxury!

my Oregon Trail took me by-way of West Oakland, where i began an apprenticeship as a timber framer. this involves overalls, a power sander and a whole lot of sawdust.

i thought i would share these photos shot by Daniel Jung. it was my day as the accountant, so you miss out on my overalls (and, sadly, my "hot accountant" look).

climbing the fish ladder

Yes. the fish ladder. it came up recently among friends, none of whom were certain what it meant. well...now i know. and it happens to be metaphorically accurate for my current passage. i'm sure you've heard of "swimming upstream." well, this is like swimming upstream and uphill--both ways!!!

fish ladders are passages constructed near dams or other human-imposed barriers, which allow migrating fish to complete their journey home (if only to reproduce and die). they are most effective when designed to create enough resistance to make the fish fight, but not so powerful that it pushes the fish back downstream.

purging and packing

i've ditched sentimentality. it doesn't serve me to soak my cardboard boxes in tears. instead, each item i cover in bubble wrap and tuck tetris-like into its appointed place becomes a present that i will open on the other side of the country. the things i take with me have stories that make up the tales of my life--the people who have touched me, the moments i've said goodbye, the losses that have led to great finds.

i'm taking the opportunity to shed some skin and shed some light. getting rid of things that no longer serve me and recognizing the power i have to create the life i want to live, rather than live a life i'm constantly trying to change. it's the door at the end of the hallway--you know, the one that is left ajar so a sliver of light spills forth. it's the one i always ignored, or saved for later, opting instead to pound on the doors that are locked, or trying to squeeze passed the ones that are too small to fit through. not this time. this time i'm walking down the hall with my head held high, knowing i will face little resistance and will be embraced by the warmth of light and love, bathed in a sense of purpose.
